Mrs. Curry and the entire staff of Orville C. Krause Early Elementary School would like to welcome you to Armada! Come get to know us – we invite you for a visit and are available as needed to answer any questions or share our instructional expertise.
A little about our building and staff…
Mrs. Susan Curry opened what was then the new elementary school in Armada in 1999, and currently serves not only as the Early Elementary Principal, but as the Elementary Curriculum Director, and Director of State and Federal Programs for Armada Area Schools.
Mrs. Curry’s previous background in elementary administration, staff development, educational consulting, and Title I School Improvement laid the foundation for her transition to Armada Schools, where she credits the outstanding success of our student learning on the exemplary instructional abilities and caring student support of our early elementary staff and ancillary personnel.
This excellence in education is clearly evidenced in the MEAP scores for our third graders in Armada, which are among the highest, in all of the 21 Macomb County school districts. Since the MEAP is given in the fall of the year – only a few weeks after the students have started school – the third grade scores serve as an appropriate measurement for the instructional foundation laid in grades Kindergarten through Second Grade.
Krause Early Elementary staff prides itself in its commitment to the pursuit of extensive professional staff development and its focus on data driven instruction, along with the use of a scientifically research based curriculum that not only meets but exceeds state standards. In fact, annual staff development hours for our certified teachers are virtually three times the number of hours required by state!
We offer a full range of educational support – before and after school tutoring, Title I instruction, challenge reading materials and instruction, and five weekly specials for all students. This enrichment includes piano lab, vocal music, art, World Cultures and Languages, computer lab, library, physical education, and the use of technology in the classrooms. Students also have the opportunity to participate in our lunchtime “Tiger Tracks” walking programs – complete with incentives for track miles, and our “ROAR” (Respect Others Act Responsibly) School-wide Positive Behavior Support Program.
However, our greatest attribute is the positive, caring, supportive environment created by our staff, in partnership with our parents and community. We truly believe that each child can and will succeed – and that it is our privilege to meet each learner where they are and to extend their learning opportunities to give whatever support they may need. We excel in working to personally connect with our young learners and their parents in building that most important foundation for early and continued success for ALL of our learners. We are here to help provide for YOUR most important investment – your child’s success.
