Principal's Welcome
Orville C. Krause Later Elementary Welcomes You!
“At Krause Later Elementary we establish high standards and support learning for all in a caring environment.”
Welcome to Orville C. Krause Later Elementary and Armada Area Schools! I believe you will find Krause to be a great place for your children to learn, grow, and achieve. We are very proud of the rigorous curriculum offerings, dedicated professional staff, and incredible support from our parents and community. The partnership between teachers, students, and parents has allowed our students to excel academically on local, state, and national assessments. Our students have consistently scored at the top of Macomb County schools in reading, math, and science on the Michigan Education Assessment Program (MEAP) tests in the last five years.
Within the classroom, our teachers work very hard to ensure that all students realize their potential. All students are assessed using Northwest Evaluation Assessment (NWEA) and Dynamic Indicator of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). These assessments provide important data on what level of support students need in reading, math, and science. Teachers use this information in their daily lessons to address various learning styles and abilities. Technology resources, such as mobile and traditional computer labs, allow students to use Google applications, math support sites such as iXL, and much more.
In addition to the challenging core curriculum that students receive at Krause Later Elementary, there are also several special classes that provide enriching experiences. The classes which include art, physical education, music, and world cultures occur each day for forty minutes. Beyond these special classes, several extracurricular activities are available to youngsters. Students in fourth and fifth grade may join our strings orchestra which meets 3-4 days a week before school to learn the basics of violin, viola, and cello. Students in third grade may join our “Go Green” club that studies environmental issues, plants flowers, leads recycling efforts, and much more. Fourth and fifth grade students may also join our Lego Robotics teams that have been highly successful at the local and state competitions in the last several years.
Our parent group, Tiger Cub Boosters (TCB), meets the first Wednesday of each month at 9:00 in room 136. TCB provides a wealth of resources to students and staff, including the purchase of supplies, technology, and much more. Parents are also encouraged to volunteer in classrooms whenever possible.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions on how we can improve the education offered to the students at Krause Later Elementary, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
