The Macomb Academy of Arts and Sciences officially opened its doors in August of 1999.   The Academy started with 50 freshmen students from school districts in northern Macomb County and 2 teachers.   We graduated our first class in May 2003.

Since that time, we have expanded to over 200 students and 7 teachers.   Our student body comes from  3 surrounding counties - Macomb, St. Clair and Lapeer counties.

Our graduates have attended colleges and universities on an international basis.  A good percentage of our college graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees including study at the doctorate level.

How well were you prepared for college both academically & emotionally?

The Academy taught me discipline and study skills that are both necessary for college. I felt as prepared as I could be for the academic portion of college. Emotionally, I was able to cope with the transition from living at home with my parents to living on my own partially due to the fact that Lyman Briggs is a math and science residential learning community much like a home away from home.

Plans after Graduation:

After Stacy completes her internship at Botsford Hospital, she will begin a 4 year residency in Diagnostic Radiology. She then anticipates moving on to a one or two year fellowship program in either Neuroradiology or Interventional Radiology.

Words of Wisdom to Current MA2S Students:

Stacy advises Academy students to be proactive. Stacy comments, "There are many reasons I am where I am today but one of them was careful planning. Visit your college counselors early and often. Know what you want, and then pursue your goals. Joining clubs, talking with older students, job shadowing, and volunteering are always good ways to narrow down your goals, network, and being planning."
